DIFFERENT TYPES OF DATA TRANSFER CONNECTOR
We are using mobile phones since so many years. And we saw different types of data transfer cables or pins or ports, which helps us to transfer data or charge battery. But, do you know how fast they transfer data.
In this blog I will explain transfer speed of particular cable and 6 different types of data transfer cables available in market.
1. USB Small Pin
2. USB Mini-B 4 Pin
3. USB Mini-B 5 Pin
4. USB Lightning
5. USB Micro Flat Pin
6. USB Type-C
1. USB SMALL PIN (2mm pin)
This pin was quite famous in India as Nokia charging pin. Nokia use to bundle small pin charger with all the devices they launched. With this pin technology was only used to charge mobile phones, but data transfer experience was not good. Or may be at that period of time not many people were in technology like, to transfer files into computer and again transfer back all that stuff. I don't have exact theoretical number of transfer speed but it was lot more slow compare to other next generation pins.
The mini-b 4 pin only supports USB 2.0, which transfers data at the speed of 480Mbps. This was not so popular in India. I saw less mobile phones which comes with this port.
It was a slight improved version of mini 4pin USB. But it gives a strong fight to small pin which 4 pin was failed to do. This connector has more technology. It was used for charging and as well as transfer data from any portable device into computer. It makes data transformation between devices easier. It also supports USB 2.0 only but transfer speed was slightly improved, which is 500Mbps.
4. LIGHTNING CONNECTOR
Lightning connector also support USB 2.0 which transfers data at 480Mbps speed. For some devices it supports USB 3.0 also. Apple is the company which bundles lightning connector with their devices like iPhone, iPad etc. Apple customers always had a complaint about slow charging speed for their devices.
Micro USB connector supports USB 3.0 which transfers data upto 5Gbps. Can you see the difference, it is 10times more faster than the connectors which support USB 2.0. This was the huge implementation. All the companies ship their smartphones with Micro USB port, which supports charging as well as transfer data between devices very fast.
From Micro USB 3.0 to Type-C connector, the speed increased by twice. It transfers data at the speed upto 10Gbps and it supports USB 3.1. This speed is achieved by the design also. This technology is available from long time but not many brands include this port because of cost. The cost of this connector is high. But now slowly all the companies are shifting to Type-C. Like Apple and many more companies now they are launching laptops with Type-C port. In future Type-C can be a universal port which will be better option.
